Moving my blog

OK, I'm moving my blog to blogspot. I don't like Xanga's design and you cannot change it too much. So, here's the address of the new blog:

http://paulxzonline.blogspot.com/

Just starting :). But the important thing I guess is to keep the "what I am up to" updated to  keep people informed about what I am up to. And I am trying to put some exchange experiences in "exchange experience".

Merry Christmas everyone :).

Competition

When I was taking a walk with my parents, we started talking about the services of airlines. Then it led to how competition improves services. However, it also occured to me that sometimes, competition leads to viscious cycles. So when do competition help improving rather than harming? The answer should be applicable to a lot of phenomina in china I think.
For the kind of competition that harms, I want to give an example. You guys know Guanxi or relations. Under some circumstances, competition made it such that you have to have some relations to make certain things work or relations bestow great privilege upon you but overall, people are hurt.

Lost in Beijing

Something I have never done before... I lost my way in Beijing today.
It wasn't all loss forever. On the bus, I thought that a city once so familiar to me is changing so much and I am changing too which changes the way I look at it.
I was watching a TV series and adored being a columnist. I had a chance at the beginning of the year but the other person and I were too busy/lazy to work it out. Now that I am on holiday, I figured I really want to write somethings about Beijing. I'll start posting some articles here and on MSN space.
Can anyone introduce me some column that I can try to apply and see if they'd be interested in some Beijing stories, some Beijing vs HK stories, Beijing college student in HK stories etc(I have got tons of good stories on this too like my rebellion but I just don't know if any paper/magazine would be interested)?
I can be versatile and lost in Beijing/HK/(Beijing & HK)! :)

Restless HK

The moment I realize this, I am already involved.I was never able to understand people who just spend a like ten days of vacation and go to work again. That's not a vacation!

However, this is exactly what is going to happen to me. Going back to Beijing the day after tomorrow, stay for a while in Beijing, come back to HK, then go back to BJ, then head off to the US. I guess I will learn to make better use of fractional time periods. And this is happening to many of my friends. We're indeed growing up.

The holidays in HK are never long. When I was having lunch with some Hong Kong friends, they seemed to be unhappy with sporadic leaves of one or two days too. Quite a life pace...

One thing that add scarily into this restlessness is the traffic of HK which mostly takes you any where you wanna go in 30 minutes. I just wonder what is the cumulated government spending of HK. Well, Chinese economy is said to be overheating so I guess we're quite far from seeing new roads being built.

Heroes in my heart- American vs. Japanese cartoon

A few years ago, I read a book about mathematicians called "Heroes in my heart".Yet I am only using the name as a starter.

I just watched spiderman and I was much moved by the movie. Additionally, I thought of its similarities with superman which is also one of my favorite shows and their differences from Japanese cartoons. Actually, it kind of surprised me that they are cartoons but the motif is so deep. Both superman and spiderman are the heroes but their troubles are almost proportional to their powers if there's a way to measure torture. On the other hand, Japanese cartoons are more peaceful and the characters usually have troubles but the troubles are usually much different in nature. They worry about not getting their homework done, etc.

Far as I know, both Japanese and americans have some side of strength in their souls, yet of course every country has their own strength. And if they had none, they would have been wiped out in the war days. But so long as cartoons can tell, the information conveyed by Japanese cartoons and american cartoons are very different.

This is very bad writing, I need to stop here and continue after I figure out some point. Or what do you think, readers? Does this observation inspire you somehow?

P.S. Favorite Japanese cartoon that I think I need to pay an ode to, Doraemon. It is quite creative and somehow conceives every kid's dream.
